L029 Galaxy Pleco
Common name: Galaxy Pleco
Origin: South America (native to the Rio Xingu and its tributaries in Brazil)
Optimal living conditions: 26 - 30 °C temperature
6.5 - 7.5 pH
150 l+ sized aquarium
Adult fish size: 10 - 12 cm
Diet: L029 Galaxy Plecos are omnivores and will consume a variety of foods in captivity. They primarily feed on algae, plant matter, and detritus. In an aquarium, they should be offered a varied diet of algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, spinach, and cucumber. Additionally, they can be given live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia to ensure a balanced diet.
Tankmates: These peaceful plecos are generally compatible with other peaceful species, such as tetras, rasboras, and other non-aggressive bottom dwellers like Corydoras. They are ideal for community tanks as they are not territorial but do need some space to establish their own hiding spots. Avoid keeping them with larger or aggressive species that may outcompete them for food or space. Providing plenty of rocks, caves, and driftwood is crucial to ensure they feel secure and comfortable.
Note: The L029 Galaxy Pleco is known for its striking appearance, with a dark body covered in small, bright white spots, resembling a galaxy of stars. This unique coloration makes them a sought-after species in the aquarium hobby. Like other plecos, they are excellent at helping to control algae in the tank, though they should not be relied upon as the sole method of algae control. They are nocturnal, so they tend to be more active at night.
