Diet: Mesonauta festivus is an omnivorous cichlid and enjoys a varied diet. They should be fed a mix of high-quality cichlid pellets, live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Plant-based foods like algae wafers, spinach, and lettuce can also be included in their diet to ensure balanced nutrition. Providing variety will help maintain their health, vibrant colors, and active behavior.

Tankmates: Festive Cichlids are relatively peaceful for their size, but they can be territorial, especially when breeding. They do well with other peaceful to moderately-sized fish, such as tetras, larger barbs, and other South American cichlids that are not overly aggressive. It’s best to keep them with similarly sized fish and avoid small, fin-nipping species. Providing a tank with plenty of hiding spots and space to swim will help reduce aggression and stress. They do best when kept in pairs or small groups, especially if they feel secure with enough space.
