Diet: Moenkhausia pitteri is omnivorous and will accept a wide range of foods. They can be fed high-quality flake foods, small pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. They also appreciate some plant-based foods, including algae wafers, spirulina, and blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini. Offering a varied diet ensures they receive all the nutrients needed for health and vibrant coloration.
Tankmates: Pitter’s Moenkhausia is a peaceful species that does well in community tanks with other small to medium-sized, non-aggressive fish. Good tankmates include tetras, rasboras, peaceful barbs, and small catfish like Corydoras. They are a schooling species, so it’s best to keep them in groups of at least 6 to 8 individuals to help them feel secure and exhibit natural social behavior. A well-planted tank with gentle water movement is ideal for their active and peaceful nature.
Note: Moenkhausia pitteri, or Pitter’s Moenkhausia, is a beautiful tetra known for its elongated body and unique coloration. It features a pale silver body with a bright red or orange coloration on its fins, which is especially vibrant in healthy individuals. They are excellent for peaceful, planted community tanks, adding both color and movement. Due to their schooling nature, they should be kept in groups to avoid stress. With stable water conditions and a varied diet, they can live happily in aquariums for many years.
