Diet: Pethia nigrofasciata is an omnivorous species that will accept a wide range of foods. In the wild, they feed on small invertebrates, plant matter, and detritus. In captivity, they do well on high-quality flake or pellet foods, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A varied diet, which includes both plant-based and protein-rich foods, helps ensure they maintain their health and vibrant coloration.
Tankmates: The Black-lined Rasbora is peaceful and social, making it a great addition to community tanks. They should be kept in schools of at least 6-8 individuals to promote their natural schooling behavior and reduce stress. Suitable tankmates include other peaceful species like small tetras, other rasboras, Corydoras catfish, and dwarf gouramis. It’s best to avoid keeping them with larger or aggressive fish, as they are small and can easily become stressed or bullied. These rasboras prefer well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots and open swimming space.
Note: Pethia nigrofasciata is known for its striking black horizontal bands that run along its body, providing a beautiful contrast against its lighter body. These fish are relatively easy to care for and do well in a variety of aquarium setups. They are active swimmers and enjoy the company of their own kind. While not as colorful as some other rasboras, their unique patterning makes them a captivating addition to any aquarium. Their peaceful nature and small size make them suitable for aquariums of various sizes.
