Diet: Platydoras costatus is an omnivorous catfish that will eat a wide range of foods. In the aquarium, they should be fed a varied diet of high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and earthworms, as well as plant-based foods like algae wafers. They may also scavenge on detritus or leftover food in the tank. It’s essential to provide them with a balanced diet to keep them healthy and ensure their growth and vibrant appearance.

Tankmates: This species is generally peaceful and can be kept with most community fish, though they are bottom dwellers and may compete for space with other similar species. They do best in groups of at least three to four, as they can be somewhat shy and will feel more secure with company. Suitable tankmates include other peaceful fish, such as tetras, guppies, and peaceful cichlids. They may nip at slower-moving, bottom-dwelling species, so it’s important to ensure there is enough space for everyone. Platydoras costatus will appreciate the presence of hiding spots such as caves, rocks, and driftwood, where they can retreat to during the day.
