Diet: Polypterus endlicheri is a carnivore and requires a protein-rich diet. In captivity, they can be fed a variety of foods, including live or frozen offerings like bloodworms, shrimp, earthworms, and small fish. High-quality carnivore pellets and tablets can also be included in their diet. These fish are opportunistic feeders, so it's important to offer a balanced diet that mimics their natural prey in the wild. Regular feedings of live food like feeder fish and shrimp are ideal to meet their nutritional needs.

Tankmates: Polypterus endlicheri is generally peaceful but may become territorial as it matures. It’s best to keep them with other large, non-aggressive species such as large cichlids, peaceful catfish, and other bichirs. Small fish should be avoided, as they may be seen as food. These fish are nocturnal and prefer having a tank with plenty of hiding spots, such as caves or driftwood. Providing an environment that mimics their natural habitat will help them feel more secure and thrive.
