They also enjoy occasional plant matter, so adding algae wafers or small amounts of blanched vegetables (such as spinach or zucchini) can be beneficial. A varied diet is key to keeping them healthy and vibrant.

Tankmates: Pristella maxillaris is a peaceful, schooling fish and does best when kept in groups of 6 or more. They are compatible with many other peaceful species, such as small tetras, rasboras, guppies, and peaceful catfish. Due to their small size, avoid keeping them with larger or aggressive fish that may pose a threat.
