Pseudotropheus elongatus chewere
Common name: Elongatus Chewere
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa. Found in rocky shorelines and caves in the Chewere region.
Optimal living conditions:
- Temperature: 24 - 28 °C
- pH: 7.8 - 8.6
- Aquarium size: 200 liters+ (requires a tank with a rocky aquascape to provide hiding places and territories)
Adult fish size: 10 - 12 cm
Diet: Herbivore. Feed a diet rich in plant matter, such as spirulina flakes, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like zucchini and spinach. Avoid protein-heavy diets as they can cause health problems.
Tankmates: Aggressive and territorial, especially when spawning. Best housed with other robust Mbuna species. Avoid timid or slow-moving fish. Overcrowding the tank with Mbuna (and ensuring proper filtration) can help reduce territorial aggression.
Note: The Pseudotropheus elongatus "Chewere" is admired for its elongated body and striking blue and black vertical bars. It is an active and highly territorial fish, particularly the males, which guard their territories fiercely. These cichlids thrive in tanks that replicate their natural rocky habitat and require stable water conditions with high oxygen levels. Regular water changes and a balanced diet are crucial for their health. They are best suited for experienced aquarists familiar with Mbuna care.
Note: This small chart is only the basics and is not enough for you to decide if this fish is right for you! Do your own detailed research before buying!!
