Pseudotropheus lombardoi
Common name: Kennyi Cichlid
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa. Found in rocky regions of Mbenji and Nkhomo Reef.
Optimal living conditions:
- Temperature: 24 - 28 °C
- pH: 7.8 - 8.6
- Aquarium size: 200 liters+ (requires a rocky aquascape with caves and hiding spots)
Adult fish size: 12 - 13 cm
Diet: Herbivore. Feed spirulina-based flakes or pellets, blanched vegetables like zucchini and spinach, and occasional algae wafers. Avoid high-protein foods to prevent health problems.
Tankmates: Highly aggressive and territorial, especially males. Best kept with other robust Mbuna species. Avoid peaceful or slow-moving fish. Overcrowding can help disperse aggression but requires excellent filtration.
Note: The Kennyi Cichlid is admired for its striking sexual dimorphism: males are bright yellow, while females and juveniles display light blue bodies with dark vertical bars. This Mbuna species is extremely territorial, especially males, and requires a well-decorated tank with sufficient hiding spots. Stable water parameters and a proper herbivore diet are essential for their health. Ideal for experienced cichlid keepers who are comfortable managing their aggression.
