Origin: Found in freshwater and brackish rivers and streams across Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Indonesia, and surrounding regions.

Adult fish size: 4 - 5 cm

Diet: Omnivore. Stiphodon atropurpureus feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and small invertebrates in the wild. In captivity, they thrive on a varied diet consisting of high-quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini. They also enjoy live or frozen foods, such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Providing a diet rich in plant matter and algae will help keep them healthy and active.

Tankmates: Peaceful. This species does well in peaceful community tanks with other species that require similar water conditions. They are often best kept with other peaceful fish, such as tetras, rasboras, and other small gobies or shrimp. Aggressive or large species should be avoided, as they may stress out the gobies. Additionally, they thrive in tanks with moderate to strong water flow, which mimics their natural habitat in fast-flowing streams.
