Heludaria fasciata
Common name: Melon Barb, Black Spot Barb
Origin: South Asia (native to freshwater rivers and streams in India, especially in the Western Ghats region)
Optimal living conditions: 22 - 26 °C temperature
6.5 - 7.5 pH
80 l+ sized aquarium
Adult fish size: 7 - 9 cm
Diet: Melon Barbs are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flakes, small pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. They also appreciate vegetable matter, so include blanched spinach or zucchini and spirulina-based foods.
Tankmates: Peaceful community species such as tetras, rasboras, danios, and Corydoras. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6 or more to feel secure and reduce stress. Avoid housing them with very small fish or slow-moving species, as they are active swimmers.
Note: Melon Barbs are hardy and easy to care for, making them ideal for beginner aquarists. Provide a tank with plenty of swimming space and some plants or driftwood for hiding spots.
Note: This small chart is only the basics and is not enough for you to decide if this fish is right for you! Do your own detailed research before buying!!
