Common name: Ocellated Tetra, Ocellifer Tetra
Origin: South America (native to the Rio Orinoco and Rio Negro basins in Venezuela and Brazil)
Optimal living conditions: 24 - 28 °C temperature
6.0 - 7.5 pH
80 l+ sized aquarium
Adult fish size: 5 - 6 cm
Diet: Hemigrammus ocellifer are omnivores and thrive on a diet of high-quality flake food, small pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. They will also enjoy plant-based foods, such as spirulina and blanched vegetables like spinach and zucchini.
Tankmates: Peaceful species like other tetras, rasboras, small barbs, and other community fish. These are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of 6 or more to help them feel secure and reduce stress. Avoid keeping them with aggressive fish or large, predatory species.
Note: The Ocellated Tetra is known for its unique appearance, with a dark spot on the tail that resembles an eye. Their peaceful nature and active schooling behavior make them a lovely addition to a community aquarium. They prefer a well-planted tank with plenty of swimming space and hiding spots.
