Origin: South America (native to the Rio Orinoco basin in Venezuela and Colombia)
Optimal living conditions: 24 - 28 °C temperature
6.0 - 7.5 pH
80 l+ sized aquarium
Adult fish size: 4 - 5 cm
Diet: Hyphessobrycon procyon are omnivores and do well on a varied diet. They can be fed high-quality flake food, small pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. They also appreciate plant-based foods such as spirulina and blanched vegetables like spinach, zucchini, and peas.
Tankmates: These tetras are peaceful and thrive in a community tank with other small, peaceful species such as rasboras, other tetras, small cichlids, and catfish. They should be kept in schools of at least 6 individuals to promote their natural schooling behavior. Avoid housing them with aggressive or larger fish that may intimidate or harm them.
Note: Hyphessobrycon procyon is known for its striking appearance, featuring a combination of silvery body tones with vibrant red-orange coloration on its fins and tail. This tetra is active, peaceful, and best kept in a well-planted aquarium with plenty of swimming space. Like most tetras, they do best in groups, where they will feel secure and exhibit their natural schooling behavior.
