Microrasbora kubotai
Common name: Kubotai Rasbora, or the Emerald Rasbora
Origin: Myanmar (native to streams and small rivers in the southeastern regions)
Optimal living conditions: 22 - 28 °C temperature
6.0 - 7.5 pH
60 l+ sized aquarium
Adult fish size: 2.5 - 3 cm
Diet: Microrasbora kubotai is omnivorous and benefits from a varied diet. They will thrive on high-quality flake foods, small pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and microworms. They also enjoy some plant-based foods, so adding algae-based products or finely chopped vegetables like spinach can complement their diet. A balanced diet with protein, plant matter, and occasional treats will help maintain their health and vibrant colors.
Tankmates: Kubotai Rasboras are peaceful and social fish, making them ideal for community tanks. They do well with other small, non-aggressive species like tetras, dwarf shrimp, and small catfish. Avoid keeping them with large, aggressive fish, as they are small and can become targets. Keeping them in schools of at least 6 to 8 individuals is recommended, as they will feel more secure and exhibit natural schooling behavior. A planted tank with hiding spots and gentle water flow will make them feel at home.
Note: Microrasbora kubotai, also known as the Kubotai Rasbora, is a beautiful and small species that is admired for its striking emerald green and red body coloration. Males are usually more colorful, with a more intense red hue, especially in the fins. This species is ideal for those with smaller aquariums or community setups, as they are active, peaceful, and do well in groups. Due to their small size, they require careful tank planning, with appropriate tankmates and a stable, clean environment.
