5.5 - 7.5 pH
60 l+ sized aquarium
Adult fish size: 4 - 5 cm
Diet: Nannostomus mortenthaleri is omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods. They should be fed high-quality flake foods, small pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. They also enjoy small amounts of plant-based foods such as algae wafers, spirulina, and finely chopped vegetables. A varied diet is important for maintaining their health and the vibrancy of their unique coloration.
Tankmates: Mortenthaler's Pencilfish is a peaceful and shy species, making it well-suited for community tanks with other small, non-aggressive fish. Good tankmates include tetras, rasboras, peaceful barbs, and small catfish like Corydoras. They should be kept in groups of at least 6 to 8 individuals to encourage natural schooling behavior. As they are timid, they prefer tanks with plenty of plants and hiding spots, along with soft water and gentle filtration.
Note: Nannostomus mortenthaleri, or Mortenthaler's Pencilfish, is an attractive species known for its slender, elongated body and striking coloration. It has a translucent body with a golden to reddish-orange stripe running along its side, which can be particularly vibrant when the fish is well-cared for. This species is not only visually stunning but also adds a calm and peaceful presence to a well-planted aquarium. They are best kept in schools and thrive in stable, soft water conditions, where they can exhibit their natural schooling behavior.
