Product description

Common name: Sutchi Catfish, Iridescent Shark

Origin: Southeast Asia (native to the Mekong and Chao Phraya River basins in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia)

Optimal living conditions: 24 - 30 °C temperature
6.0 - 7.5 pH
300 l+ sized aquarium

Adult fish size: 60 - 90 cm

Diet: Pangasius sutchi is an omnivorous species. They primarily eat fish, aquatic insects, and plant matter in the wild. In captivity, they will thrive on a diet of high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods like shrimp, bloodworms, and fish, along with some vegetable matter. While they can adapt to a variety of foods, it’s best to provide them with a balanced diet to encourage healthy growth.

Tankmates: Due to their large size, Pangasius sutchi requires a very large tank, at least 300 liters, and ideally larger. They are generally peaceful but may outgrow smaller tankmates. They do well with other large, peaceful species like other catfish, large tetras, and cichlids. Small or slow-moving species are not suitable as they may be seen as prey. They also prefer being in groups, so keeping at least two is ideal. However, as they grow, their space needs increase significantly, and they should be transferred to larger aquariums or ponds.

Note: Pangasius sutchi, also known as the Iridescent Shark or Sutchi Catfish, is a large, fast-growing species often mistaken for a shark due to its sleek body and dorsal fin. While they are initially sold as small, attractive fish for community aquariums, they grow to an impressive size and require a very large tank or pond to accommodate their adult size. These fish are peaceful, but their size and active nature make them unsuitable for typical home aquariums unless the owner is prepared for their rapid growth and large space requirements. They are often best suited to large public aquariums or outdoor ponds where they can live comfortably. It's also important to note that these fish are sensitive to water quality and require well-filtered, clean water to thrive.
