Repti-Zoo SuperSun 160W - mercury vapor lamp

The high-quality SuperSun lamp creates a heat island by emitting its rays at a 50-degree angle, while UVB and UVA radiation is emitted over a much larger range. Thanks to this solution, the animal being raised has the ability to choose the heat zone it wants to stay in while having constant access to UV rays.

The use of the SuperSun bulb solves the problem of installing many different bulbs with various characteristics (daylight, UVB, heating), allowing us to provide the animal with all the necessary light waves using just one bulb.

The emission of UV rays in a mercury vapor lamp is much higher than in traditional compact UV bulbs or fluorescent lamps (12.0), which allows for the lamp to be installed at a much higher height, positively affecting the appearance of the terrarium.

UV radiation stimulates the synthesis of vitamin D3, enhances appetite, helps recognize the environment and sexual partners, aids in food searching, and increases the vitality and activity of the animal.

Birds and reptiles, unlike humans, possess the appropriate receptors to receive ultraviolet light. The lack of UV radiation in the lighting provided to our charges is often underestimated by caregivers because, as mentioned, humans cannot perceive this light and focus on lighting within their visible spectrum.

Mercury vapor lamp – a lamp that does not require a ballast. Instead, it is equipped with an electrode, similar to a traditional bulb. The electrode is connected in series with the starter and in lamps of this type serves the role of ballast. The starter is a light source containing mercury spectral lines with a large pressure broadening. Some of these lines lie in the ultraviolet range.
