Rhinogobius duospilus
Common name: Two-spotted Goby
Origin: Found in freshwater streams and rivers in East Asia, particularly in China and Taiwan.
Optimal living conditions:
- Temperature: 22 - 28 °C
- pH: 6.5 - 7.5
- Aquarium size: 60 liters+ (with plenty of hiding places and a fine substrate)
Adult fish size: 4 - 5 cm
Diet: Carnivore. Feed a varied diet that includes high-quality sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. They also enjoy scavenging for small invertebrates and detritus in the tank.
Tankmates: Peaceful but territorial. Rhinogobius duospilus is best kept with other peaceful fish that won’t compete for the same food or space. Avoid keeping them with overly aggressive or much larger species. Small catfish, peaceful tetras, and other small gobies can make good tankmates. Provide plenty of hiding spaces, as they may claim small territories.
Note: The Two-spotted Goby is a charming species known for its distinctive markings—two dark spots located near the body, which give it a unique and striking appearance. They are bottom-dwellers, and you'll often find them perched on rocks, pebbles, or substrate. While they’re peaceful, they can be a little territorial with their kind, so it's best to keep a single male or a pair. They prefer tanks with fine gravel or sand substrate, where they can dig and create burrows. A well-maintained tank with lots of hiding spots and plenty of food will help this species thrive.
