Diet: Omnivorous. Swordtails are not picky eaters and will readily accept a variety of foods. A balanced diet should include high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Vegetables such as spinach, zucchini, and peas should also be included in their diet to maintain good health.

Tankmates: Peaceful but active. Swordtails are social fish and do well in a community tank with other peaceful species. They can live with other livebearers (like guppies, mollies, and platies) as well as tetras, corydoras, and rasboras. However, males may become territorial, especially during breeding, so it’s recommended to have a higher ratio of females to males (about 2-3 females per male). They are also quick swimmers, so it’s important to avoid housing them with slow-moving or overly aggressive fish.

Note: Swordtail fish are known for their striking, elongated tail fin, especially the males, which have a characteristic "sword" extension on the lower part of their tail fin. These active and hardy fish are a popular choice for beginner aquarists due to their ease of care and lively nature. Swordtails can be bred in a community tank, as they are livebearers, and the fry are fairly easy to raise, making them a great choice for those looking to breed fish. They prefer well-planted aquariums with plenty of swimming space and enjoy water conditions that are slightly on the harder and more alkaline side. They are also relatively low-maintenance, but their tank should be regularly cleaned to maintain optimal water conditions.
