Tanichthys albonubes
Common name: White Cloud Mountain Minnow
Origin: Native to China, specifically the streams and ponds of the White Cloud Mountain region.
Optimal living conditions:
- Temperature: 18 - 24°C
- pH: 6.5 - 7.5
- Aquarium size: 40 liters+ (a small group of these minnows can be kept in a tank of this size)
Adult fish size: 3 - 4 cm
Diet: Omnivorous. Tanichthys albonubes enjoy a varied diet consisting of high-quality flake food, micro pellets, and frozen foods such as bloodworms and daphnia. They will also graze on live plants and algae if available. It's important to supplement their diet with occasional live or frozen foods for optimal health.
Tankmates: Peaceful community fish that do well with other small to medium-sized peaceful species, such as other minnows, tetras, and small gouramis. They are ideal for a community tank and do best when kept in schools of at least 6-8 individuals. Avoid aggressive or larger species that may intimidate them. They can also be kept in aquariums with shrimp and snails.
Note: Tanichthys albonubes is an excellent choice for beginners due to its hardy nature and small size. It is a schooling species, and they feel most comfortable and show their best colors when kept in a group. While they can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, they are ideally suited for cooler water setups, making them perfect for unheated aquariums or tanks with other cold-water species. Their vibrant coloration is a standout feature, especially in well-maintained tanks with good water quality and gentle filtration.
