Origin: Southeast Asia, particularly from the rivers and streams in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Optimal living conditions:

• Temperature: 24 - 28°C
• pH: 5.5 - 7.5 (slightly acidic to neutral)
• Aquarium size: Minimum 60 liters for a small group.

Adult fish size: 4 - 5 cm

Diet: Rummy-nose Tetras are omnivores. They will accept high-quality flake foods, pellets, live foods (such as brine shrimp or daphnia), and frozen foods. They also enjoy some plant matter, so you can supplement their diet with algae wafers or blanched vegetables like spinach.

Tankmates: These tetras are peaceful and thrive in a well-planted community aquarium with other non-aggressive species. They do well with other peaceful fish such as tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, and other community fish. They may feel stressed or intimidated by large or aggressive tankmates, so avoid keeping them with fin-nippers or overly boisterous species. They do best when kept in groups of at least 6-8, as this helps them feel secure.

Note: The Rummy-nose Tetra is famous for its striking appearance, with a bright red nose and silver body with black markings that become more pronounced when they feel secure. They are known for their peaceful temperament and graceful swimming. Rummy-nose Tetras are also known for their schooling behavior, so they should be kept in groups to ensure they thrive.

As a species that originates from soft, slightly acidic water, it’s best to replicate these conditions in your aquarium. Keeping them in a group will also help them show their most vibrant colors. This species prefers a well-planted tank with gentle water flow and plenty of hiding spots.

Note: While they are hardy, these tetras are quite sensitive to water quality and should be kept in stable environments with good filtration. They’re also prone to stress when exposed to rapid changes in water parameters.
